Luton Town FC Community Trust are seeking volunteers to assist them with their Tackling Loneliness Together project. This is a brand-new project from the English Football League Trust with the aim of bringing people together and helping individuals feel more connected. Loneliness is a major issue in the UK with a recent study showing that 7.4 million UK residents had felt their well-being had been affected through their having felt lonely in the past seven days.
They have recently taken over the book delivery and collection service on behalf of the library. This typically involves collecting 8 boxes of library books from Luton Central Library and delivering them to the addresses provided. The majority of the people they visit are elderly, living alone and possibly have a disability or health condition which makes getting out very difficult. The Community Trust like to have a little chat with them, as they are possibly the only people they are seeing and interacting with all day. They let them know a little bit about the project and signpost them to any other services or activities they may benefit from, such as our Community Trust walking groups.
Adam Woulds, Business Development Manager for The Community Trust said “We’d also welcome any volunteers for our walking groups taking place at Stockwood Park every Thursday and Wardown Park every Friday, both at 10am. As the project develops, we’ll look to add further group activities, both online and in person, such as a football chat and reminiscence session, gardening club and a coffee morning. If anyone would be interested in running or helping out with any of these things, or if you have your own ideas, please do get in touch”.
