Hatters Heritage Score Twice at Luton’s Best Awards

Some great news for our friends at HATTERS HERITAGE, on Friday night, at the Love Luton Awards event. This annual celebration highlights the extraordinary contributions made by individuals and organisations to our town and its people. We congratulate all the nominees and eventual winners.

Many of our Followers will remember that SAVE OUR TOWN were formed six long years ago with the original purpose of supporting the proposed new stadium development at Power Court and fighting opposition to the plans. The Hatters were about to get promoted from League Two – and Milton Keynes relegated from League One – a delicious irony! At the same time Hatters’ Heritage were about to be formed, instigated by current Chair Roger Wash – a wonderful coincidence!

The synergy doesn’t end there; we are both determined to champion our town and celebrate its long heritage and history, to promote its culture, enhance its reputation and create a legacy for young people and future generations.

Roger and his team were declared WINNERS of the LOVE LUTON Leisure, Culture and Heritage Award (sponsored by @LutonHooHotel). The cherry on their cake was the additional and highly prestigious PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD – voted for by us Lutonians!

LOVE LUTON are engaged in “creating confidence, pride and a positive image for Luton” – more power to your elbows people!

We’ve posted before concerning the amazing work Hatters’ Heritage have done to digitise the whole paper archive covering the entire 139-year history of Luton Town as well as preserving precious memorabilia, supporter memories and detailed statistics – all available through a fantastic new website www.hattersheritage.co.uk Volunteers, for example, have trawled one and a half million negatives and glass plates from the Luton News archive to identify and digitise more than seventy-five thousand that feature Luton Town matches and stories! There’s also a YouTube channel.

CONGRATULATIONS Hatters’ Heritage – from one team of Luton-philes to another!
